Started playing the Hakuouki game last month during vacation.  I stopped to finish my dissertation and defend.  Now that is over and I’m reading the Parasol Protectorate plus trying to finish all the Hakuouki anime.  I’ve seen both anime seasons so far, the first OVAs, and SSL.  I can’t wait to get back to the game though. I’ve finished the Saito, Okita, and Sano endings.  I’m in the middle of Heisuke and it isn’t doin’ it for me.   Hopefully it will get a little more interesting.   So far, I still think Saito is my favorite…so much so that I may have to go through that one all over again.

I promise I didn’t stop eating.  Lots of new pictures on the way.

New Year’s Eve dinner at Antonia’s in Hillsborough, NC was really fantastic this year!   We started with cocktails (an old fashion and a french twist martini).  Followed with starters (lobster/crab bisque and a delightful salad with pears and cheese in phyllo dough).   Main course was a delicious filet mignon wrapped in proscuitto and duck.   Dessert was a napoleon and tri-color mousse.    Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had.   Everything was just superb.

Before the Holidays, we went to the Winemaker’s Dinner at Childress Vineyards.  The dinner consisted of multiple courses each paired with at least 1 (and usually 2) Childress Wines.   The dinner was located in the barrel room and one of the courses consisted of a barrel tasting.    Everyone sat at one long table, so it was nice to meet other local wine enthusiasts.    My favorite course of the evening was the Grilled Romaine with Prawns, but the Pistachio Gelato was lovely too.  My favorite Childress Wine is the Cabernet Franc.  Sorry the pics are so dark…the barrel room was lit only by candles and twinkle lights.

North Carolina BBQ has a few distinct styles.  Here are pictures from Speedy’s BBQ in Lexington, NC…home of the famous Lexington BBQ.   Speedy’s sauce is a sweet, thin tomato based sauce with hints of vinegar.   They are also famous for their “skins”.
